Purpose of IHMS Ed Fund
The purpose of the IHMS Ed Fund is to enhance the education at Iron Horse Middle School through the collection and distribution of funds. We are proud that IHMS was recently recognized as a California Distinguished School. This academic success doesn't just happen. It is the result of the effort of our excellent administrators, dedicated teachers, and committed parents. Not every parent can volunteer their time at school, but EVERY parent can support the Ed Fund.
The Ed Fund is an affiliate of the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation. The IHMSEF has two primary purposes:
- Reduce class sizes: We reduce core academic class sizes by purchasing additional sections from the district, in effect hiring more teachers. This year, we are funding 7 additional sections, with each section being the cost to hire a teacher for one period. These sections can also include teachers working in intervention classrooms to provide extra help to some students so that the core teacher can focus on all the students in the class.
- Technology support and upgrade: Based on input from the Principal and Site Council, we purchase devices to enable students to access digital tools that help them research, note-take, create, and author as 21st century learners. This gives your student access to a much richer variety of educational materials while developing proficiency in the tools of the modern economy. This school year we are making the last payment on the class set of iMacs in our computer lab and the second of three annual payments for our 210 iPads in our 1:1 classrooms (7th grade Core and 8th grade Science).
We ask a donation of $300 for each student, but any amount is greatly appreciated. Your most generous possible contribution will help sustain our school's tradition of excellence. Thanks for your support.
